Partial List of my Equipment My basic office system consists of Microsoft Office Small Business Server 2003 with a 10 user license connected to a wireless hub and a number of computer workstations and laptops. The configurations change as needs change but at any given time I have 10 to 15 computers connected. A Roadrunner high-speed internet cable modem feeds the WAN port on the hub and gives all of the systems high-speed internet access. Most of the systems have two 150 GB hard disks each and RAM of 128 mb up to over 1 gb and other features. The Small Business Server allows me to access it or any of the attached workstations from any internet access point. A laptop with wireless capability allows me to access my office from most major motels, airports, and even Barnes and Noble with pretty high speeds. All approved users can access the system by entering the IP address and logging on to the local intranet at my office or the Exchange Mail Server. The Small Business Server is the best server software I have ever seen and affordable too ($599 for 5 users)! See Microsoft Small Business Web Site The below needs updating since adding all new Microsoft software. Trios 1 - System with switch for 3 configurations- all have access to the same equipment but use different software setups. 1 GZ speed, 512 MB RAM, multiple hard disks, CD Writer, DVD player, etc.
Trios 2 - System with switch for 3 configurations using Linux Operating systems- all have access to the same equipment but use different software setups. 400 MZ speed, 512 MB RAM, multiple hard disks, etc.
Windows 2000 Professional System. 800 MZ speed, 512 MB RAM, multiple hard disks, CD Writer, DVD player, ZIP drive, etc. Walmart $199 Linux system- Microtel Computer came with 128 MB Ram and 10 GB hard disk, CD-ROM, network card, etc (no modem & no floppy). Had Lycoris Lindows Desktop and Linux installed with free Office package (Word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, organizer, address book, etc), games package, photo & music packages, internet packages, & lot's more. No Microsoft products! But desktop looks better than Windows and works fine. I added a 40 GB hard disk just to play and so far everything works. I'm just starting to look at the over 2000 free programs available for Linux. More later. Linux Links Windows XP Home Edition System. 2+ Ghz system with standard software that many people find on their new computer- includes WordPerfect Office 2002 and lot's of other stuff. Just starting to use this system. Got it at a price I could not refuse. Hewlett Packard Jornada- 548 version Pocket Computer running Windows CE Version with 32 MB internal Ram, 16 MB ROM, etc (newer versions are available & better). Includes Windows Ce for Pocket Computers, MS Word, MS Access, MS Excell, Active Sync, Media Player, Reader, MS Money, and lots of other programs. This is my version of the popular Palm Systems and I keep it with me. When I return to my office I place it in the cradle and it synchronizes with my desktop systems. My calendar, Daytimer, Notes, etc are always up to date and most anything I need from my own software can be exported to a Word or Excell format and transferred to my handheld system. I have several memory modules that are interchangable with this system and my Digital Camera or Desktop systems and can actually show short movie clips from my camcorder with sound and my photos from my digital camera work great here too. One memory card has several hours of my favorite music arranged into "playlists" to listen to while I exercise instead of the radio and tape system I used in the past. Using Windows XP makes copying and organizing all of this very easy. Networks- Started with Novell, now use Windows more. Windows Peer-to-Peer, Windows NT, others as needed. Office is set up connect all of my systems as needed and even to connect to my laptops from my den while I watch TV at night. Remote access is available when needed. Older ones are just sitting there collecting dust until I need to try something on an old system. Current systems are both Toshibas with Windows ME and Windows 2000 Professional. Scanners- I have a few- It's cheaper and easier than it used to be & I generally update to a new one that has all of the new bells & whistles. Digital Cameras - I have two. First one cost $99 and newest cost about $300 on sale. Completely changed the way I view photos now. Hewlett Packard photosmart 618. Came with 16 MB memory but uses same memory that HP Jornada uses. Depending on settings can take from 40 photos to several thousand. Lots of software, USB and NTSC/PAL/ video/audio cables, etc. Camcorder- Old VHS and new JVC system Printers- Lots of models- mostly Hewlett Packard and Okidata with Cannon Portable for remote jobs.
